Aerification of the Greens

Spring is right around the corner and it is time to awaken the Greens from their winter slumber. The greens have performed very well this winter, retaining good color and remarkable firmness, all good signs of a healthy environment. In two weeks we will aerify and topdress the greens in preparation for a busy spring season. Aerification is the process of removing a core from the greens to increase soil gas exchange and to promote vigorous rooting among other beneficial aspects, these aspects aid in providing the best posible playing conditions throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. During the next couple of weeks, we will fertilize the greens in an effort to "kickstart" the spring growth. This kickstart promotes a faster healing process following aerification. A side effect of this fertilization will be slightly slower green speeds next week, averaging 10-10.5 on the stimpmeter. Rest assured the Golf Course Maintenance team will work deligently to perform this necessary process in an expediant manner with the upmost care.
